Gaudy is a Deathlands term to describe prostitutes, and prostitution. In many regions it is the fastest and easiest way to earn jak, or to barter for other goods, or services. Many women volunteer to begin the life of a gaudy, however most are often forced into it. Most gaudies can be recognized by their excessive make-up, bits of provocative garments, and high-heels.
Like virtually all other forms of illegal activity, prostitution flourished in the decline of law and order that followed Skydark.
