Ville was a common word used to describe the many towns, villages, and hamlets that dotted the Deathlands.
Although the word ville comes from a French word, of Latin origin meaning farm or village, it appears to be either the shorting of the word village, or that many American towns ended in -ville, such as Nashville, Knoxville, Huntsville and others.
